Kolkata Knight Riders has made hattrick of their loss in Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2021 defeated by Mumbai Indians(MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) and lastly Chennai Super Kings(CSK) while CSK has become table topper on Wednesday. KKR and CSK came across each other at Wankhede stadium where KKR won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK was bound to bat first and gave a challenge of 221 runs to KKR as they scored 220 runs for 3 wickets throughout 20 overs. KKR lost all of their wickets within 19 overs scoring 202 runs.
On Wednesday, Rituraj Gaikwad scored 64 out of 42 balls while Moen Ali, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja scored 25, 17 and 6 runs out of 12, 8,1 balls respectively. Faf du Plessis created a mountain of runs by scoring 95 runs out of 60 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, 5 wickets of KKR went down very soon and 4 of them were taken by Deepak Chahar. Andre Russell and Pat Cummins played well from KKR by scoring 54 & 66 runs out of 22 and 34 balls respectively. Eoin Morgan received criticisms too for his decisions in the middle.
Previous Indian opener Virender Sehwag too questioned his leadership and told that he has not thought Morgan ‘is that good a captain of T20 cricket.’
Sehwag told Cricbuzz, “I don’t think Eoin Morgan is the best T20 captain in the world. Yes, in ODI cricket, he has a really strong team. Whoever bowls well, wins the game for England. But in IPL – he does not have that team, and I also don’t think he is that good a captain of T20 cricket. If you compare MS Dhoni with Eoin Morgan, it would not be a correct comparison. also, he does not have that good a team which he has for England. Because a captain is as good as his team. When he builds a great team may be next year, or if his players start performing extraordinarily. Even if two players start scoring runs, or two bowlers start picking wickets, then this will be a good team. And they will start winning matches. At this moment, I don’t feel Eoin Morgan is that good a T20 captain “.
Morgan gave fine of Rs. 12 lakhs for continuing a slow over-rate during his team’s game against CSK.
KKR faces the offence for the first time. IPL told in a statement, “Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 21”. It added, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Morgan was fined Rs. 12 lakh.”
