Jimmy Cozier is one of America’s biggest R&B singers and songwriters. Jimmy is from a musical family, which gave him exposure to this profession at a very young age. He is the son of Guyanese American jazz saxophonist Jimmy Cozier, and Dawn Cozier, a Jamaican born hairstylist. As a child jimmy was encouraged to sing as a child by his family, but he would rather demand that he would perform in groups and slowly he moved into doing stage performances.
A bit more about the numbers behind “She’s all I got”s success- it was Jimmy Cozier’s debut single released in 2001 and went viral as soon as it hit the charts. It rose to on the Billboard hot 100 and to four on the R&B chart. After that Jimmy Cozier no longer had to look back. Apart from composing his own songs, he also began aiding other artists such as Chris Brown, Olivia and Cherri Dennis with his song writing skills. Another big milestone in his life was when he signed on to Clive Davis’ J records label. After J records folded, Jimmy Cozier decided to launch himself as an independent artist finally creating his own label Cozi Music Inc. Talking about his initial process of progressing by creating new songs and trying new stuff, he mentions,
-In 2007, he announced the work on a new album, releasing two singles, “U Got Them Goods” and “You”, that year, there was a continuation of work on his sophomore album stretched through 2010.
-His second album, Way of Life was announced in 2010, led by the single “Tonight” which was released on March 2, 2010.
-In 2013, he collaborated with Sean Paul for his single “Always Be My Lady” which was released on August 2. Additionally, he also released a single “Girls Girls” that year.
Although Jimmy Cozier’s success is no matter of confusion considering his great talent and motivation to make a name for himself and his music it is instead the latter which is something quite extraordinary to see. There are not many in this world who have the courage and the know-how on surviving an extremely toxic and competitive industry such as that of music.
