Previous Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar became delighted to see MS Dhoni’s glimpses of mesmerizing destructive form during CSK vs. KKR match on Wednesday at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.
Dhoni played a blitzkrieg innings of 17 runs out of 8 balls hitting a six and two fours. Andre Russell’s bowling and Eoin Morgan’s beautiful catch made Dhoni bound to leave the crease. Gavaskar appreciated such a knock from the captain MS Dhoni.
“It is (special). The whole of India loves watching him bat. He has got something special. The more he gets to bat, the better he is going to be as the tournament progresses. And we will probably see a lot more sixes and boundaries coming off his bat the more we saw him bat at No. 4 or No. 5,” Gavaskar said Star Sports after CSK’s win of 18 runs against KKR.
Dhoni entered into the field after the wicket of Moeen Ali went down. This all-rounder of England scored 25 runs out of 12 balls before brought out stumped off the bowling of Sunil Narine. Keeping Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu aside, Dhoni came into the crease. At the first ball of the spinner Sunil Narine, he hit a four and it was his first four too that came from a spinner in any form of cricket. Then the captain hit a four and a six against the bowling of Prasidh Krishna but due to a stunning catch he had to go back very soon.
“He sussed up the situation very well. He realized that more than Rayudu, Raina or Jadeja, he was needed to keep the momentum going. That’s what he did with that little cameo of an innings. He made sure CSK didn’t take their foot off the accelerator,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
